Serbia Analysis

After missing out on previous World Cup, Serbia is back on the big stage. They are among teams that changed their coaching staff after qualifications.

TThe new choice raised some eyebrows in Serbia, as this is the first job in Mladen Krstajic’s coaching career, who was previously the assisstant coach to Slavoljub Muslin. He has made some changes to the team, but has also changed the system they play in. Serbia switched from 3-4-2-1 formation that won

  1. As always, Serbia has a squad of talented individuals and this team possesses great attacking potential. Mitrovic has had an amazing season with Fulham, and the same can be said for Sergej Milinkovic-Savic who has been instrumental for Lazio. The team was a real threat recently when it comes to counter-attacks, with Kostic being quick to release from defensive position and Ljajic providing penetrating passes from central areas.
  2. Main issues defensively are considered to be due to lack of pace at the back, especially in full-back positions. They tend to join the attack frequently, but fail to track back on time. If they don’t change somehing, they’ll suffer from teams that rely on counter-attacks.
